PRESIDENT’S REPORT
Hello, fellow NC trappers. I hope that this report finds you doing well. By the time that you receive this issue,we will be at our annual convention and I hope that all of you who attended had a wonderful time.
The first item that I would like to touch on is a great source of pride for me and should be for you as well. At the NTA convention held in Lima,Ohio back in August, two of our members were inducted into the NTA hall of fame. Tonnie Davis and Paul Dobbins took their rightful place among the very best trappers in the nation and I can not think of two men who are more deserving. Tonnie Davis has been a part of our association from the beginning and is still one of our district directors. By all accounts, he is one of the hardest working fellas that I know hands down. He is a true woodsman in every sense of the word and has fought tooth and nail for our trapping rights for decades.
Paul Dobbins is, as Bob Noonan put it in a recent interview, arguably the best known trapper in North America. His website Trapperman.com is undoubtedly the hub of the trappers cyber world and Dobbins brand lures (started by his father, Charles Dobbins) are a staple of trappers across the country. And did I mention that he knows just a little bit about beaver trapping? Above all, he is humble, approachable and always willing to help.
These two men are a shining example of what we all should aspire to be. They have my gratitude and my respect.
All is quiet on our legislative front but I want to take this chance to remind you all that we need to use bodygrip traps responsibly. The last thing that we need is to have another incident where a dog is caught and killed. Please, please set with caution.
I will close for now and I promise that I will have a full rundown on our convention in the next issue. For those of you with November season openers approaching, I wish you luck and please try to take a youngster with you as you venture out this fall. — Tony W. White
