VICE PRESIDENT’S REPORT
Hello fellow trappers, I hope this letter finds you well. I have a few things to report to you, so let’s dive right in.
House bill 755, which would put the regulation of foxes under the control of the NCWRC is being considered by the legislature at this time. You would’ve received a mailing instructing you on how to contact your Representatives concerning this bill. We need to throw our full weight behind this bill, as it is our best opportunity to have a state wide fox season. So please call, email, write letters or send smoke signals, if that’s what it takes, but please contact these people and voice your support.
Luckily, we still have our lobbiest, Michael Mann working for us in Raleigh. Michael has been working hard for this association, and has been in constant contact with president Rodney Stancil and Tony Davis to keep us up to date.
The mailing the we sent out brings me to my next subject. These hard copy mailings are expensive, as well as time consuming to do. To save money and time, we need to assemble an email address list of our members. This way, we can get info to our members faster, and without the cost of a full mailing. Once this list is complete, we can match it against our membership roster, so that we can do a limited mailing to those without Internet access. Moving on, for anyone interested in becoming a Hunters Ed or Trappers Ed instructor, David Denton, with the NCWRC, will be holding a Hunters Ed instructor course on June 18th and 19th at the NC Wildlife Depot, located at 868 Highway 481 in Tillary, NC, 27887. To qualify, you must have passed a basic hunters safety course, be 21 years of age, and pass a back round check. The course is free. Also, the NCTA and NCWRC are offering free 1 day Trappers Ed courses in all regions of the state. To attend either of these courses, you must sign up online at http://NCpaws.org/huntingsafety/courses/advanced.asp . Information on times and locations will be posted on this website.
Before I wrap this up, I’ll once again ask you all to make calls, and send emails concerning house bill 755. This is our best shot at a statewide fox season and for common sense game management of this fur bearer. You can bet that the opposition is mobilizing against it, so if we are going to get this passed, we must work for it. I’ll close for now, until next time.
