VICE PRESIDENT’S REPORT
NTA 6th Annual Southeastern Regional Convention on May 1-3, 2009 was a great success! Karola Owen, NTA’s Vice President gave NCTA and its volunteers many compliments as to how it was managed, the food and the location at the Senator Bob Martin Agricultural Center, Williamston, N.C. “A great job by all involved.” “It was perfect.” A personal thanks to President Jimmy Pierce for suggesting we host the Southestern Regional and to his efforts in making it happen. To Wayne Rose, many thanks for his coroboration with the Agricultural Center personnel and management. And to all the volunteers he assigned to take care of numerous tasks and needs. Results were that everyone had a great time with no problems! At our May 31 Board Meeting, the Board voted to put our name (NCTA) in the hat to host the regional again.
We need to recognize some folks that made this an outstanding event.

Thanks to the N.C. Wildlife Commission for requesting legislation to legalize use of #280 bodygripper traps. Senate Bill 1011 was amended in the House Wildlife Commitee to allow large size bodygripper – 6 x 60 and the MB 12 x 16. The law, allowing the new traps now available, will help you be a more efficient beaver trapper.
Plans are already under way for our Fall Convention in Smithfield, Johnston County, North Carolina.
2010 Advanced Trapper Education Workshop NC Divsion of Forest Resources Mountail Training Facility in Crossnore, NC will be held April 2-4, 2010. Nine Trappers have already signed up! Lodging and all training materials for $300. As well as great food, knowledge and fellowship!
Jimmy Pierce turned in his written resignation effective immediately May 3, 2009. The Board will elect a new President at the convention.
On a side note, I just received my fur check. Let me insert that I have researched and endured more fur markets than most of you. It would be nice if it was as good as the 1928 Winter Fur Market, of which I have a copy. Keep in mind, you could buy a new Ford for just over $400. Fox were $40 each, Mink $40 and Raccoon $23. You could get a coke for 5 cents and get a 1 cent return for the bottle! A dollar then would purchase a lot more then than it will today! The fur market will return. In the mean time, just trap and enjoy matching wits with nature’s best — the mink, fox and coyotes!
