VICE PRESIDENT’S REPORT
Well, as I am writing this, the rain is still coming down. Three inches so far today, typical beaver season. Just like always, snow, sleet, ice, rain, things falling from the sky, you name it, I love it, but nobody ever said I was normal.
I hope everyone is having a safe season so far, with the cold and snow, you cannot be too careful. From the reports of the sales so far, it seems that only muskrats and mink are wanted for a reasonable price. Even NAFA had to cancel their January sale. No reason was given, but you have to imagine it was because of lack of buyers. No one can blame either the buyers or the auction houses. The way this economy is, there is no one who will stick their neck out and say, “I will take a gamble” unless it is for a very low price. Hopefully by March the market will have settled down. Our sale is on for March 20 and 21, no mater what. The letters have gone out to 21 buyers. Hopefully they will all show and fight for what is offered. Haha, with a little luck we will get five or six. At least then there will be some competition. If you have any questions about the sale, call me at 973-697-2981.
Remember we meet every month. If you would like to see what is involved in making this association work, call me and come to a meeting. We would love to have you.
Our membership rates will be going up in March. The cost of the Trapper & Predator Caller is going up again. We have absorbed these increases for several years, however, it has gotten to the point where we must raise our rates. Most of the increase will be used to offset the latest increase and recoup what we lost over the last several years. We hope everyone understands, but if we lose members, that is the price we have to pay. We cannot afford to absorb the cost anymore. I am sure everyone realizes that paper and postage have gone up for the paper, so they have to raise their rates. No matter what, this is still a good deal.
That is enough for today, Remember, be safe, have fun and take a kid with you.
— Jim DeStephano
