VICE PRESIDENT’S REPORT
I hope everyone is having a good season. Now that the season is just about over, it seems that prices may be improving. Our January sale was one of the smallest that I can remember. Of course the reported low prices and threat of a major snowstorm combined to keep most people away. Those who came found that prices were not as bad a predicted — $3.50 rats, $13-15 ’coons, only reds were a disappointment. But all in all the quality was also lower. So those of us who had fur in the sale went away happy.
Some people are talking about holding their beaver in the freezer until next season. That might not be a bad idea. Just be sure to only rough skin, double bag and then freeze. If you skin and flesh, they will probably freezer burn and be worth less than selling this year. Personally, I plan on selling this year, whatever the price. Atlantic City hates people like me.
Do not forget our last sale will be on March 21 and 22. As always, we will only accept fur on Saturday and sell on Sunday. The sale will start at 10 a.m. Checks should be available shortly after your fur is sold. No waiting, 5 percent commission for members, 7 percent for nonmembers. No grading or other fees. What you hear is what you get.
Do not forget we will be at the open house at Pequest Hatchery the weekend before the opening of trout season, stop by and see us. They will probably have the flea market also. That is a good place to pick up those last minute supplies, just before fishing season. But also remember to support your local sport store. They might not be the cheapest place around, but they are there when you need them. And most will support all the local clubs with a donation for their fundraisers.
Keep in mind the National Trappers will hold their Northeast Regional at Pittsfield PA on May 8, 9 and 10. This is pretty far out (near Erie), but usually worth the ride. I will see you there. All right, enough said. Remember, be safe, have fun and take a kid with you. They are our future.
