CATTARAUGUS COUNTY
The November meeting of the Catt. Co. Trappers Assoc. was held in the Catt. Co. Coop Extension building as usual. After opening the meeting, we continued last meeting’s discussion on the earlier opening of beaver season. Will the pelts be prime enough? We plan to contact the fur buyers to see what they report and then we will know what to advise the DEC.
Brian Davis moved to have the fur Auction in January as usual, but there was a SNAFU. The Hinsdale fire hall, our usual place, is being remodeled in January and February and as such is unavailable. John is working to find us another place. We will need to know fairly soon as it takes time to advertise these events.
A motion was made and carried to send the U.S. Sportsmen’s Alliance a donation for the work they do. Also we voted to send David Miller, our lobbyist, some money for the work he does in Albany. We all agreed that he does a great job and is well worth it.
We usually have a dinner or picnic during the year, but last year it just sort of got pushed to the side. David Allen suggested perhaps a tureen dinner where everyone brings a dish to pass and their own table service. Derwood said he could bring a crock pot full of meatballs and Brian said he could bring a pot of his world famous chili. Now all we need is a place to have it and a date. A couple of places were suggested and April seems like a good month. Some after dinner entertainment was suggested and sounded good. David is to see about setting it up.
We are on the lookout for some new demos for next year’s show. Derwood suggested we attend the Bradford show in the spring to look for speakers. Perhaps someone to speak on fishers as they are moving into our area.
There will be no meeting next month as it is too close to Christmas. Anyone wishing to join should call John Milks at 716-557-2523.

CORTLAND COUNTY REPORT
The meeting was called to order at 5 p.m., Nov. 15, 2009.
Once again the 50/50 was won by Les Wedge and guess who won the lures donated by John Hahn? I’ll just use initials, L.W. News Flash: Butch Jenks won the Pheasant feather mount donated by Bill and Diane Klager, very nice. Sorry Les.
President’s list:
Bill bought the treestand for our next raffle. Dick’s had a great sale. Treasurer will pay the bill.
President Howe discussed the coyote hunt sponsored by the IFH.
Lee Stockton is still not up to snuff and the members all wish him well.
The IFH Fur Auction will be Saturday, Dec. 12, at the Pompey Rod and Gun Club starting at 8 a.m. Bill also has IFH raffle tickets. Great prizes.
We will have the election of Officers at the December meeting. All offices are available and the salaries will remain the same.
The Treasurer’s report was accepted as read.

Round Table:
Shirley Howe brought up the fact that we seem to be out of Association hats. John Slocum and Shirley will check out cost and types of hats available from a couple of different vendors. We will decide at the next meeting where and what kind of hats we will get.

John Hahn used one of our videos to create a set demonstrated in the video. Hope it works.
Dick Firshing noted new regulations on the use PFDs while on the water.

ERIE COUNTY REPORT
At our last meeting, we finalized plans for both of our upcoming events. Our annual Fur Handling seminar will be held at Collins Conservation Club, located on Conger Rd. Collins NY (between Jennings Rd. & Baghdad Rd.) on Saturday, Jan. 9 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. The clubhouse has a roomy building with plenty of parking.
We will have several stations set up for you to watch and learn about pelting, fleshing, stretching, drying and sizing. There will also be informative handouts. ECTA member and local fur buyer, Hoot, will be on hand to show various pelts of put-up furs for comparison. We invited Andy from the Griz Shop to set up a sampling of goods that he has available at his Delavan shop. It is a good mix of trapping and hunting supplies.
We will have our club table set up with the fur game and prizes for the kids, and will be signing up new memberships as well as taking renewals. Pack up the kids and come and spend a morning with us so you do not miss this highly informative event! For more information, please call Hoots Furs at 716-397-1315.
Our Fur Auction will be held again at S& S Taxidermy & Archery Pro Shop on Rt.219 in Springville NY (1 mile south of Rt. 39), on Saturday, Feb. 6. Fur check-in is at 8 a.m. with the auction start time at 10 a.m. Graders will be on hand to get your furs into lots. Just as last year, sellers will only be allowed at the buyers table when their lots come up.
This helps the buyers with the crowds and gives each seller a chance to no-sale their furs. We will need helpers as usual, please call Patti at 716-337-2556.
Other meeting news included the D.E.C. Environmental Education Camp at Rushford. We are now in the early stages of selecting our camper. If you know any boy or girl between the ages of 12 and 14 who would love a chance to attend camp for one week next summer, please sign them up. We will need to make our choice and be ready to send in the application to sponsor them by Feb. 9. The cost of the camp is $325 and we have allotted funds each year to fully sponsor one youth.

We voted again to send in our yearly dues and “Buck a Member” donation to the New York State Conservation Council for $100. The Council is a non-profit organization that works at a “grass roots” level in conservation to protect fish and wildlife with legislation that is vital to all NY sportsmen. We will continue to receive the “Grass Roots” newsletter to keep us abreast of the latest information. Visit their Web site at www.nyscc.com.
We welcomed back one of our members who was away working with the Corp of Engineers in Afghanistan since early summer. He told us about his adventures and how he spent his down time. He brought in several different survival bracelets and key chains he made from parachute cable. Pretty neat. You can use the 9 feet of cord in each one! Thanks Harold for sharing them with us and we are glad you are back safe and sound.

• Discussion on the coyote hunt contest, we realized we need a good set of scales for future coyote or turkey contests. Club voted and agreed to buy a set for no more than $250. Al will look into this.

• We voted NOT to attend the Big East Sports show at the Turning Stone due to poor attendance.

• A fellow trapper in Ontario, NY had a devastating fur shed fire and lost everything, please donate supplies, traps, money, anything you can spare to Wayne Jones, 9152 River Rd., Marcy, NY 13403. The club sent $50 donation.
• Al will be working on our grant money at the Vernon Shooting Center on Nov. 14, and will oversee Onondaga and Madison county clubs. Al thanks for all your time and commitment.
• Discussion on mink and beaver seasons, I can understand opening beaver season early, but to spend extra gas money hitting the same places two weeks later for mink doesn’t make financial sense.

• Southern tier Bow season closes Nov. 20, gun season opens Nov. 21. Be careful and wear orange.
• This year’s fall fur sale will be held on Dec. 12 at the Pompey Rod and Gun Club. Check in will be at 8 a.m. And the flat rate commission will again be 10 percent to all sellers. Please try and attend as the club NEEDS VOLUNTEERS to help check in fur and help out.
• Our annual Christmas Banquet has a confirmed date of Dec. 20 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. And will again be held at Al’s Village Diner in East Syracuse, N.Y. The dinner is free to all members; please bring a small gift to pass. If you are going to attend, all we ask is that you please call Al Burns at 633-2030 or 415-7509 anytime before the dinner, and let us know how many will be in your party, so we have a rough idea of how many to make reservations for. Thank You.
• The Northeast Sports Show will be held on Jan. 22 to 24, 2010, at the NYS Fairgrounds. The Club will again be attending and NEEDING VOLUNTEERS to man the booth. This is our biggest fundraiser of the year, so please try and attend. Our raffle item will be the same as last year, the complete predator calling package. It includes a new shotgun-predator caller-and decoy along with the nite-light package. It is valued at well over $1,000 and is a great prize for someone. We will be giving away our nice Alpaca blanket as an optional prize. Tickets are included in this mailing, and yes we know the date is wrong – Please Sell Them.

OSWEGO COUNTY TRAPPERS REPORT
OCT. 6, 2009 MEETING
The meeting was called to order.
Due to an issue with computer, the newsletter paper version wasn’t able to be sent.
The treasurer’s report was given and accepted as read.
The convention went very well. We had great weather and a lot of good people there. Thanks to everyone who helped out.
The CANY membership is being renewed at the buck a member level.
The Conservation Field days went well. Trappers were there doing group demos, but more can always be included thanks to Howard, George, Ed, Bill, Roy. Thanks to all.
The State is looking for ideas to get more kids involved in trapping.
We are ordering another gun for next year’s raffle.
The next meeting will be the Christmas dinner . It will be at the Leatherstocking club house and it will start at 6:30 p.m. The club will supply the meat. Everyone is asked to bring a dish to pass and their own place settings and any drinks you might want. We will have the coffee there.
