VICE PRESIDENT’S REPORT
For those of you who have not heard, Marty Scanlon, President of the NJ Trappers Assoc has died. Marty had a massive heart attack on Oct, 19 at home. The doctors and nurses at Trinitas Hospital were able to keep him alive, however, he had suffered too much damage to his brain.
After a week, his family had to make the horrible decision to let him go. All of us wish to offer our sympathy to his family. That had to be a terrible choice to make. He will always be in our thoughts and prayers. He did so much to keep this group and his county Federation going.
I got back from my trip to the Adirondacks just in time for the Mass in his honor. It was good to see such a large turnout for him. Not only was his large family there, but Dave Chanda, Director of Fish and Wildlfe, and Andy Burrnett, the principal furbearer biologist, took time out from their packed schedule to attend. There were about 10 members of the NJTA. A pretty good turnout on a weekday. It made me feel good to know they recognized all Marty did.
On a better note, Bill and I had a fun time on our trip this year. The weather was mild and just a little rain. No snow, unlike last year. The catch was pretty good as well. We just have to work on those smart foxes and coyotes. They sure can find a trap, no matter how hard we tried to fool them. Only the smart survive to breed, and we learned that.
Remember, we will only have one fur sale this year. March 20 & 21 is the date. If you have any questions, call me at 973-697-2981. Hopefully the market will have stabilized by then. At this time, the market seems to be at least starting to stabilize. Only time will tell.
