PRESIDENT’S REPORT
NJFH Members,
I hope everyone had a nice and safe Thanksgiving and you are enjoying this year’s trapping season.
On Nov. 1, the NJFH had it’s annual convention and although it rained in the morning, we stayed dry under the pavilion and we had a great turn out! I can’t thank all the officers and members that helped out enough because that’s what made this convention such a success. Jay Mounier received an achievement award, which was much deserved for all his hard work the past 12 years.
As I said many times, Jay has been the back bone for this group and we are all glad we had a little way to show our appreciation! James Holowienka and Steve Decker worked hard on the award itself and did a great job. James burnt the NJFH logo on a wooden plaque and then they put a gold #110 connibear on the plaque and it all came together great! Thanks for your time and hard work!
Fred Stine and Newt Sterling did demos and everyone seemed to enjoy them and I’m sure they picked up more tips for trapping. Thanks Fred and Newt.
Clint Ekelman skinned a skunk and even fleshed it! Clint was a trooper because he stayed at the skinning even through rain. Thanks Clint!
Another person that I need to thank is Ed McCay. Ed took care of the permit this year for us this year and there were no headaches and it made it easy for us. Ed and Scott Tozier also gave up their time by opening the gates early and closing the gates when it was all over. Thanks Ed and Scott!
The auction was also a major success and it is only good because of the people that donated all items for the auction. We would like to thank all the people that donated the items and here is the list, thank you: James and Robin Holowenka, Steve Decker, Eric Space, North America Fur Auctions, Curt Haberman, Steve Leeds, Chuck Mathis, Mike Potocek, Newt Sterling (Snare One), John Headley of West Creek, Fred Stine, Jay Mounier, Harry Hewitt, Wade Hammit and Clint Ekelman. If there is anyone we forgot, I apologize and please let me know. I did try to get everybody’s name, but the day of the convention can be chaotic at times and it is easy to miss someone.
I’m getting ready to go to Pennsylvania for my annual trapping and hunting trip so I am going to keep this report short, but I just wanted to make sure I thanked everyone that made the convention fun and successful!
Enjoy your trapping season and I hope everyone has a safe and Merry Christmas!
— Curt Haberman
