PRESIDENT’S REPORT
The NH Trappers Association met Dec. 1, 2009, in Boscawen for a monthly meeting. The monthly meeting for January will not be held on the first Tuesday of the month. That meeting will take place in Springfield at the Fire Station following the NHTA annual fur sale.
The fur sale will be held in the town of Springfield at the Fire Station on Jan. 16, 2010. Doors open at 7 in the morning and the first lot will be offered at 9 a.m. A vendor will be available for coffee and doughnuts. Deer hides are not to be brought indoors. Furs to be shipped will be accepted by dealers after the completion of the auction. This year, at the request of NHTA, NH Fish and Game Law Enforcement will have an officer available to seal skins.
Miss NH, Lindsay Graham, attended the monthly meeting. She made a quick presentation and posed for a group photo. She thanked the Association for supporting the Miss NH Pageant and thanked us for the fisher jacket. She is looking forward to wearing it to the many winter events that she will be attending.
Director Steve Bennett has finalized the arrangements for the annual banquet. This year it will be held in Concord at the Bektesh Temple located at 189 Pembroke Rd, Saturday, Feb. 20, 2010. Dinner will be served at 6 p.m., doors open for a social hour at 5 p.m. There will be door prizes, silent auctions and raffles. Tickets are $35 each and are available through county directors.
Those that wear fur to the banquet will be entered into a special drawing. Minor children will also be entered into a special drawing. The Association is also offering a “Sponsorship” ticket which will allow supporters of the Association to receive a complimentary dinner, be entered into a separate top-end raffle and receive a special gift. If you would like to make a donation of $200 to be a Sponsor please contact Steve at 603-496-4353.
The dining hall is larger this year, which will allow for more elbow room. There are limited tickets so make arrangements in a timely fashion. If you have a large party attending, tables can be reserved through Steve. Tickets will not be available at the door; they are available until Feb. 9, 2010. The auction and raffles are in need of items so contributions will be greatly appreciated. You can contact Steve Bennett at 603-496-4353 to donate bid items or purchase tickets. Bill Bailey is also available for assistance with tickets and donated items; 603-796-2758.
The Association is looking for contributions of fisher skins for the coat that is donated to the Miss NH Pageant winner – any other fur donations will be accepted for fund-raisers/education kits. Also, this year, the association is working on a separate fund raising item that will require 15 quality beaver skins, preferably those with winter grade fur and measuring 65 inches. Vice president Dwight Pennell can be contacted at 603-539-7954. Thank you.
NHTA Directors agreed to set up a booth at this year’s NH Farm and Forest Exposition at the Center of NH in Manchester. The forest show will be held Feb. 5 and 6, 2010. Director Gene Dabrowski is in charge of organizing this event. He is looking for volunteers who will button up their shirts and comb their hair to work the booth. He is not available on a land line but can be contacted at 603-387-0697.
The Association voted to make $1,000 donations to Fur Takers of America and the US Sportsmen’s Alliance.
The Association purchased 13 cage traps to be loaned to the University of NH for Keene-area trappers to use for the bobcat study. So far, one large 30-pound male has been captured and radio-collared.
Best to all.
