VICE PRESIDENT’S REPORT
Fox trapping season is right around the corner and ’cat season in December will be here before you know it. Remember to fill out your trapping log provided by NDOW as the season progresses to ensure accurate data.
Our NVTA president, Joel Blakeslee, has an upcoming date with the Humane Society to demonstrate how to remove dogs from foothold traps. Joel and NDOW Furbearer Biologist Kevin Lansford will no doubt have an unusual experience to report on and we all wish them well.
Our Fur Sale Manager, Jim Curran (Jim also serves as the NTA Conservation Director) will travel to McCall, Idaho to give two talks to State Legislators from all over the U.S. at the Congressional Sportsmen Caucus Legislative Summit. We likewise wish Jim well in his efforts.
I have been discussing with Joel and with Jim a possible new NVTA logo. Not that there is anything wrong with the “old” one, but we no longer have any merchandise in stock, like hats or shirts, and if we are going to make a change, this would be a good time. Here is the basic idea. We have kept the bobcat as the “poster child” for the NVTA, outlined by the state, to suggest that we are an organization that represents all the trappers in the state. The blue border represents loyalty and I’ve included the founding date of the NVTA so that we can reflect on our heritage. Anyway, these are just some thoughts and ideas. We haven’t come to any firm decisions yet, so if you have any input, send me, Joel or Jim an e-mail so we can make a decision in time to have some hats and shirts made up to bring to Fallon.
