PRESIDENT’S REPORT

The year 2009 is about to come to a close. Are you feeling a little depressed with the fur market prices this season? Well, there certainly is a feeling of “Why do I want to go out in the cold and catch fur when the prices are so low?” I’ve heard it, you’ve heard it.

I know from being at several of the district clinics that there are young and eager trappers out there who are about to start their first season. They have watched the demos and listened closely to the “season ed trappers about trap placement, signs, lures, which traps to use to target their animals. They are ready! They are anxious! And the price isn’t going to affect their mental game.

We are trappers to preserve the heritage. We are trappers to manage the populations of abundance wildlife. We are trappers to challenge our ability to see if we are smarter than that one animal that just seems to be a little more wary and wiley. We like the challenge. We like the smells of lures and the dye. We like the feel of setting the trap in just the right spot, planted firmly and being wet up to our elbows. We like the snow and the rising water levels because it makes us think the process through more carefully.

Trap because you love it. Take a young trapper with you and share your knowledge. And go back to your first experiences that made you proud and had you hooked before you took the laws off the foot.
Have fun out there.

— Doren Miller

TREASURER’S REPORT

Hello everyone, hope you all had a nice Thanksgiving Day and didn’t eat too much. We had a nice day also.

Hope all had a good deer season and your trapping season is going good. We are catching a few animals, but hope it gets better.

We are getting ready for the holidays, and hope all of you have a great one also, don’t have much to talk about now, will try to have more next month.

Be safe and take a kid on your line, let them see what it is like to be out in God’s great outdoors, till next time may your traps be full and chains tight.
