PRESIDENT’S REPORT
Maryland Fur Trappers members held their annual convention on Aug. 22, 2009, at Tilmington Rurtain park for the second year in a row. It is a very nice park with lots of shade. The turnout was great for August, 21 all you can eat steamed crabs, Ms. MD Brooke Poklemba sang a song and Steven’s family bluegrass band played for several hours for us. We had a great time. If you want to mark your calendars for next year so you don’t miss it, Aug. 20 and 21, 2010, will be the convention dates, same time, same place.
Jaime Glenn’s father and mother Gary and Linda Shank came over and helped our members with the crab feast. Thanks to both of them, it really made things a lot easier. I also want to thank Gary for the use of his trailer to move the trash.
Our general membership meeting and elections was held and most of the discussion involved around legislation and education programs. We were close to losing trapping in Montgomery County in the last session of bill hearing so the important of spending time with your local politicians’ this summer may be your chance to keep trapping in your county and state. We are now being attacked mostly on a county by county bases. So it is important to stop by your legislators office.

The weather was nice for the live trapline, even though we only trapped one raccoon. It really turned out to be a good education for those that went along. Thanks to Butch Glen and Robert Colona for giving explanations of way those locations were chosen and way we had two traps off with nothing in them.
As for the auction on Saturday afternoon, thanks to Alfred Bradford for doing most of the auctioneering, on a tremendous amount of nice items that were donated to the auction. Mr. Raymond Brown from Clayton, DE donated numerous dozens of wire stretchers and several boxes of new traps that made the auction do really well. Thank you Mr. Brown. Larry Knott also donated stretchers and several other items. I am sorry I don’t know all the people who donated to the auction and convention with their time and money, but I really want to thank each and every one of you.
As for the last thing I would like for you our members to think about, our NTA representative Morgan Bennett has resigned from his position. So we need someone that has the time to travel to the NTA convention and on occasion be involved with conference calls. Trapping season is just around the corner, so enjoy your life by spending time in the field teaching a child.

DISTRICT 8 REPORT
Our State Convention went over real well at our new location at Fairplay, Md. The crab feast on Friday night saw 14 bushel of crabs disappear to hungry crab eaters. The live entertainment of bluegrass singing, new this year, was a big hit. The crowd for Saturday’s events was a little down from last year, but still very decent. The live trapline was set on Friday and checked on Saturday and pulled on Sunday morning. The raffle and auction did their usual good job. Many thanks go out from Maryland Fur Trappers to Raymond Brown for his generous donation of stretchers. They sold very well.
This was an election year and Ron Leggett and Alfred Bradford were reelected as President and Vice President for another two years. Many thanks also go out to them for their leadership and dedication to MFT.
Dist. 8 will resume meeting in October at 7 p.m. at the home of Bob Calloway at 14313 Cherry Lane, near Tuckahoe State Park, between Ridgely and Centreville, Md. Dist. 8 meets the fourth Tuesday of the month from October to March. Call Bob at 410-634-2501 for further directions.
