DISTRICT 8 REPORT
Attendance was again a disappointment. Four trappers for this month’s meeting. At the end of last year, attendance was encouraging. Our high hopes for this year are quickly fading.
We did have a decent meeting. Everyone told how their trapping year was going and the outlook for the remainder of the season. We make sure all trappers get their turn to have their say. The conversation quite often wanders away from trapping, but that is also OK with our crew.
None of us has encountered any other trappers while on the line. Where have they all gone? I strongly encourage all trappers to enjoy your trapping to the fullest. As I reported last month, I am again sitting out winter trapping due to shoulder surgery. Believe me, you miss it the most when you cannot have it. We must continue to hold up our end in defending trapping so it will be available to us down the road. Think about it.
Donald quoted us fur prices paid by Wm Byler and Roger quoted buy prices from Tom Cable, plus the sale results from NAFA and Fur Harvesters. He also quoted several fur sale results reported on Trapperman.com.
Discussions included a possible bill to restrict trapping in Montgomery Co., the Watermen’s Convention, the anti’s appeal in Maine, the new DNR regulation concepts and the MFT banquet coming up in March.
The bank sent us an interest statement for 35 cents on our savings account. We voted to close it and just have a checking account. High finance, huh.
District 8 encourages all members and visitors to attend our meeting. District 8 meets the fourth Tuesday during trapping season at 7 p.m. at the home of Robert Calloway. His address is 14313 Cherry Lane and is located near Tuckahoe State park, between Centreville. Md and Ridgely, Md. Call Bob at 410-634-2501 for further directions.
I can be reached at 410-634-2552 or at rogerringgold@yahoo.com.
