PRESIDENT’S REPORT
Season’s Greetings,
I hope you had a Merry Christmas and have a Happy New Year.
Don’t forget to mark Saturday, March 28, 2015 on your calendar for the Furbearers Unlimited and Maryland Fur Trappers Banquet. The event will be held again next year at the Calvert County Fairgrounds in Prince Frederick, Maryland. You can go to the Maryland Fur Trappers website, under events to get tickets and more information.
We are trying to get more trapper education classes in the state. Also, the MFTI convention will be August 7th and 8th, at the Washington County Ag.Center about 3 miles from the old site.
If your trapping buddies are not members of the Maryland Fur Trappers, please try to encourage them to join. The more members we have, the stronger our voices will be heard.
Good luck on the trapline.
God bless you and your family in the coming year.
Sincerely. — Dan Baker III
DISTRICT 8 REPORT
Another good meeting despite our limited number of attending trappers. It is fur season guys — where are you?
December is our fur and cash donation month to cover our donation to our hosts for use of their home and the many goodies they provide. Please bring or send something for our cause.
Donald reported there was no recent activity with the newly formed Delaware Trappers Assoc.
The collecting of fox glands was again discussed. The lure maker we contacted has not yet sent his instructions,
We discussed the Maine win over bear hunting against HSUS.
The NAFA sale dates were talked over along with discussion of local fur buyers. Only a few fur buy prices were available. We should have a much better overview next month.
We are all happy with the low incidence of mange on our foxes along with few ticks and fleas. Three our us had hit the foxes hard and there seems to be another good crop this year. We talked over the problems we had encountered along with the solutions. Each trapper had a chance to tell how his season was going and what we each are hoping to accomplish. We each had stories of various double catches we had made and other unusual catches.
Next we talked of weatherproofing our fox sets. Each of us do it a little different.
Dist 8 thanks David for delivering a lifetime plaque. I still have one more to deliver.
Dist 8 meets the fourth Tuesday during trapping season at 7:00 PM at the home of Robert Calloway. His address is 14313 Cherry Lane, near Tuckahoe State Park between Centreville, Md and Ridgely, Md. Call Bob at 410-634-1501 for further directions.
