PRESIDENT’S REPORT
The fall convention is over. We made about $6,700 and signed up around 25 new members. I would like to thank all of the people who donated items for the auction. Also, thank you to Corbin Bultemeier for providing his services for the auction.
As far as the election results: Doyle Flory is the FTA Director, Bill Lewis is the Director, Stu Grell is the secretary and thanks to the write-in vote, I will serve as president for the next two years.
The Hoosier Outdoor Expo was the last weekend in September. It was a huge success. We had nothing but good reviews from the DNR and the people who came to our exhibit. Frank Lamm and Monica Olson did a great job on this event. We had nine volunteers on Saturday and 18 on Sunday. We had trappers all over the state help. Great job everyone! It is nice to see us pull together and pull this off. Thanks to Frank and Monica for all the hard work.
The two-day Trapper’s Education at Salomonie is Oct. 10 and 11 and is full. The course at Kingsbury Fish and Wildlife on Nov. 7 and 8 is filling up. Call today to reserve your spot.
Trapping season is just around the corner. If you see or catch a bobcat or otter, call Scott Johnson at the DNR at 812-334-1137. The more we report these sightings, the sooner we will have an otter season.

SECRETARY’S REPORT
Results of the voting at the state convention were as follows:
Ron Elliott – President. Stu Grell – Secretary. Doyle Flory – FTA Director. Bill Lewis – Director.
We voted to do several things:
1. Raise the dues to $30 per year.
2. Create an ad hoc committee to establish a set of rules governing lifetime membership funds.
3. Name one of the scholarship awards for Dave Volund.
4. Create the Lifetime membership levels of Bronze ($100), Silver ($500), Gold ($1000) and Friends of Trapping ($2,500) memberships.
5. To rescind the motion that requires the ISTA to hire a parliamentarian for all ISTA membership meetings.
6. The fall annual member meeting will be at 10 a.m. on Saturday at the convention.
I had the pleasure of working with a whole bunch of volunteer trappers at the Indiana Department of Natural Resources Outdoor Experience at Fort Benjamin Harrison State Park in Indianapolis Sept. 26 and 27. There were perhaps 8,000 people in the park participating in all types of outdoor activities. I set more dirthole traps in two days than I usually do in a whole season. LOL.
We probably helped kids and some adults set traps 400 plus times and then had the students set them. Then they got to see water demos, set snares and get a walk through the woods with other trapping sets on display. Frank Lamm had our presentation well set up and we got very high marks from the DNR for our efforts. They want us to come back next year for sure. Thanks to the 25 plus trappers that were there to help out.

NTA DIRECTOR’S REPORT
Conservation Director Jim Curran has been invited to address the National Assembly of Sportsman’s Caucuses 6th Annual Sportsman-Legislator Summit in McCall, Idaho in October. He will speak about trapping and about the National Trapper Association. This will be a great opportunity to get our message out to state legislators who make the legislations that affects all of us sportsmen. Each legislator will be provided with a trapping educational packet.
John Daniel from Tennessee has been selected as the new General Organizer to replace Todd Roggenkamp.
The national convention at Lima was a financial success considerably topping the one in 2008.
The judge in the ME lawsuit has still not handed down a decision.
On the home front, we had a good convention at Greencastle and signed up several new members for the ISTA and the NTA. The FBU/ISTA fundraising banquet Feb. 27, 2010, is starting to draw some attention. We have the tickets printed. The banquet meal is $25. We have contracted with the Holiday Inn for discounted room rates. We have three guns and a beautiful pack basket donated so far. If you would like to help by sponsoring a gun, donating a prize, buying a ticket and attending, please contact me.
As reported at the state convention, the ISTA is sending $1,000 to Montana to help fight the anti-trapping initiative there.
