In Passing: Ronald Fair

RONALD FAIR

Ronald R. Fair, 89, of Buena Vista Road, Chicora, PA passed away Friday April 18, 2014. Ron was born in Butler PA on Jan. 14, 1925.

Ron was a well-known long time member of the PA trapper’s association district 2. He attended every Rendezvous and meeting for many years. He was a tailgater at many events all over the state. Most of all Ron was known quietly helping people, he would just show up and do things for you or with you. It was like he had a sixth sense for what people needed. He shared his vast knowledge of trapping and the outdoors with many, young and old. He set many a youngster of any age on the right track to catch their first critters. He was always generous with giving away equipment to youngster, and was a real icon in promoting the trapping heritage.

Each year Ron had a nice bunch of red fox and other furs beautifully displayed in his basement full of trapping stuff. He had been employed by Pullman Standard in Butler as a welder and retired in 1980.Mr. Fair was longtime member of the Concord Presbyterian Church and a member of the VFW in Chicora. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and served in the 10th Mountain Division headquartered at Fort Drum, Watertown, N.Y. Ron was stationed in Italy during the war, and he was a Bronze Star recipient. He is survived by his wife, Barbara Thompson Fair, who he married in North Washington on July 28, 1950. Two children survive, Gale L. Fair of Meridian and Duane L. Fair and his wife, Barbara, of Pensacola, Fla.; three grandchildren, Michelle Van Camp of Pensacola, Fla., Dr. Joshua Fair, of Fremont, Mich., and Matthew Fair, of Pensacola, Fla.; and eight great-grandchildren. A funeral service was held at Concord Presbyterian Church, 625 Hooker Road, West Sunbury, PA with full military honors. I think Ron would not mind me adding this: Trappers do not last forever, so get right with the Lord Jesus Christ, so He can pave your way to the ultimate experience for eternity.
