S.E. DIRECTOR’S REPORT
The season opening dates for wolf trapping in some areas have been changed. Be sure to check the regulations in your area.
The Feds have agreed not to list the lynx in Idaho as endangered due in large part to outstanding work from our own Fish & Game research. We are not out of the woods yet on this issue because appeals have been filed by environmental groups interested in closing large areas in northern Idaho to trapping. In the meantime, thank you Idaho Fish & Game on the lynx issue.
At this time, fur prices are not likely to be any better than last year, but muskrats, coyotes and bobcats look like good items.
If you know of any new trappers in your area, ask them to join the ITA and remind them not to set traps near a boat ramp, campground or trails. Let’s see if we can get through this year without making headlines in your local newspaper. — Bruce Bartow
