CORRESPONDENCE SECRETARY’S REPORT

We finally got a little rain after the trapping season was over and the phone started ringing, people calling with beaver complaints. I still haven’t gotten around to all of them yet. It starts warming up and I start thinking about going fishing! I’m not a turkey hunter but I do like to see that fly rod bend. It doesn’t matter if it’s bream and bass in a pond, stump knockers in the creeks, floating the Flint River, or wadding a North Georgia trout stream.

While in those places it’s also fun to keep an eye out for signs of furbearers and it doesn’t seem to matter where you go there’s always, always beaver sign. I’d like to see where they live in a North Georgia trout stream, under a rock I reckon, but their cuttings are everywhere.

We’re starting the year off mighty dry, already over seven inches behind and it’s just April! No April showers this year.

The foxes still show up every evening for their supper – doesn’t seem to matter if it’s dog food sweetened with a little used cooking oil, leftovers, or squirrels I’ve sniped off the bird feeders – free chow is free chow!

We’d like to express our condolences to Jerry Lee on the loss of his grandson.

— Steve Rainey
