SECRETARY’S REPORT
Hello CTA members. How’s your season going? Not bad here. How bout your deer season? It’s been a strange year for deer hunting in CT, not many on the privet land I hunt. I hear a lot of guys got deer on state land this year.
Anyway, back to trapping. Not a lot of ’rats in CT these days. FEW AND FAR BETWEEN. Coyote land trapping opened Dec. 1 as did beaver season. I hope you’re out there catching some of both. Remember to save the castor and oil sacs. They are worth cash money. Also, have you ever eaten beaver? Great eating. Stews in a crock pot, fried in oil or try your local game club see if they may want any beaver for a game dinner. Good eating.
Also, trappers check out our new website at www.connectiuttrappersassociation.com. It’s a totally new website that’s coming along great. Still a bit of work to do on it. Also trappers send us your photos. We can put them on our site. The more, the better. We will also have the online store up soon where you can buy shirts, patches, hats, stickers and tanned fur.
Fur prices are not what they were three years ago, but I hope you all are out there trapping and maybe bringing someone along with you like a youngster. They are the future of trapping. Also the CT Trappers have a spot on our new site called Locate a Trapper where landowners with wildlife problems can call a trapper for free wildlife removal from the first day of the season to the last day. If you would like the CTA to maybe give out your name in CT, email me at DDWILDLIFE@YAHOO.COM with all your info and what county you are in. We also have a mentoring program now where a new trapper can go on the website and email us and we will try to find a trapper who will let you tag along on their line and show you how it’s done.
We had a good raffle this year raised some money for the CTA. Thanks to all those who sold tickets to help out Connecticut’s first and foremost trapping organization that’s been fighting for your trapping rights in CT since 1967.
