SECRETARY’S REPORT

I have just returned from the 2013 Rendezvous, which was the best ever, thanks to the incredible dedication of Vice President Dan Gates to make it just that. He, his wife Karen, and son Ethan spent countless hours planning, promoting and preparing for the event.

The large meadow on the Spearman Ranch in Fremont County was a perfect location, with gorgeous vistas all around. Attendees also appreciated the many amenities provided by the sponsors, the variety of vendors and how well organized the weekend’s events were. Demos by some of the best trappers in the West were helpful to beginning as well as experienced trappers. Colorado Parks and Wildlife provided an interactive shooting and archery exhibit for kids, and Rocky Mountain National Rendezvous set up a “Trappers of the Past” camp.

Thanks to the generosity of sponsors, vendors and CTA members, the silent and live auctions brought in over $7,500! After the auction we enjoyed the music of singer/songwriter Jim Young, who also provided music at the Sunday morning church service led by humorist preacher Fred Ellis.

We will have more reports from the rendezvous in the next issue. In the meantime, we welcome these new members: Mike Ray of Pagosa Springs, Howard Potter of Denver, Gary Cromp from Lompoc, CA, and Mitchell Simpson of Silverton, TX. We really appreciate your support of our association! — Cheryl Oleyar
