PRESIDENT’S REPORT
As you read this article another trapping season will have come to a close and the 2010-2011 Cooperative Trapper Education classes will have been presented for another season. I want to thank all the individuals who helped make the classes a success. Especially Mike Sievering who does all the coordination and scheduling of the classes.
The ATPCA Spring meeting will be held in Cottondale, AL at Steve Phillip’s house (11178 Staghorne Drive Cottondale, AL 35453, 205-556-3953) on Saturday March 26, 2011. Stop by anytime after 9:00am and talk trapping. Lunch will be served at noon. Please bring a dish to pass. The ATPCA will be providing the meat and drinks. The business meeting will be at 1:00pm. NAFA fur pick-up will also be available. If you plan on shipping fur to NAFA, please plan you arrival so that you can conclude your transfer by 11:45am. NAFA representatives will not be accepting shipments from noon until after the business meeting. The NAFA representatives would like to enjoy lunch and attend the meeting with their fellow ATPCA members. Thank you for your cooperation on this matter. Signs will be posted. Current ATPCA members will be receiving a mailing on the event at the end of February.
The ATPCA 2011 Fall Rendezvous is scheduled for Saturday, September 10, 2011 at Fosters, AL. Friday will be devoted to set up and a DOB meeting. The date is a couple of weeks earlier that we normally schedule this meeting but is the only open weekend in September when the University of Alabama football team will be playing an away game. As I had previously requested in this column, I received no inquiries about hosting the rendezvous in another part of the state. As a result, the BOD decided to keep the meeting at Fosters, AL.
Again this year, the ATPCA will be working on introducing a bill to change the trap tagging requirements as currently required in the Code of Alabama, Section 9-11-59(b). As a result of the November 2010 election cycle the regular session of the Alabama Legislature does not start until March 1, 2011. In the two previous regular sessions, the House passed the bill and was sent onto the Senate where it died at the end of the sessions because it was never acted upon by the Judiciary Committee. If you have direct contact with any State Senator please contact me, we need sponsorship in the Senate to help the process along.
Alabama Regulation 220-2-.32 requires that each trapper report their harvest by number and species to the Alabama DCNR within 45 days after the end of the season. You can obtain a copy of the form at www.outdooralabama.com . The data collected from these reports is vital information needed to monitor the fur bearing population in Alabama.
When you receive your renewal notice for T&PC, please mail the two copies of the renewal notice along with your payment to Vickie Sievering , 291 Elm School House Road, Brent, AL 35034-2628, as soon as you receive it. If you procrastinate, you could miss an issue of T&PC.
