PRESIDENT’S REPORT
By the time you read this article, the NTA 50th Anniversary Convention in Lima, OH will be underway. Speaking of conventions, the ATPCA fall convention is scheduled for Sept. 25 and 26, 2009 at the Elmore County Extension Services Building in Wetumpka, AL. The facility is located off Alabama 14 at 340 Queen Ann Road. Look for the ATPCA sign.
As usual, Friday morning is dedicated to set up followed by a free evening meal at 6 p.m. and the Board meeting at 7 p.m. On Saturday, we will be having a general membership meeting at 1 p.m. This meeting is important. The positions of Vice President and Secretary are up for election. In addition we need to fill a one-year term for the position of Treasurer. It is time to step up to the plate the ATPCA needs volunteers to run for these positions.
We will also need to vote on a slight dues increase because of the subscription increase for the T&PC and the recent postage increase we need to raise our annual dues about $2 to stay even.
As of this writing, we are planning on having a gun raffle, a noon BBQ on Saturday, demos and a vendor. We will have some new ATPCA merchandise for sale. Current ATPCA members will receive a flyer in the mail the first week in September. Also watch this column for more details.
On another subject, the trap tag legislation that we tried to get passed by the Alabama Legislature during their 2009 regular session only made it halfway. It passed the House side and was sent onto the Senate Judiciary Committee for their review before a vote by the Senate. The bill never cleared this committee and died with the end of the regular session on May 15, 2009. The next regular session of the State Legislature is scheduled for Tuesday, Jan. 12, 2010. So, for now, you will have to have your name address and license number on your trap tags. We will try again next year.
I want to take this opportunity to thank Mike and Vicki Sievering for all of their hard work in developing the new ATPCA tri-fold brochure that we will be using to recruit member for the ATPCA. The brochure went through several drafts.
Thanks Vicki!
